It's been a hectic 24 hours, and last night at dinner Caleb wanted to tell me what he would be packing. I, very sweetly mind you, told him that since I was in charge of packing the other 3 members of the family I didn't really want to think about what he was taking. He paused for maybe 3 seconds, then replied, "Ya, I'm gonna tell you anyway," then continued with his "what socks will I need" discussion. <br />
<br />
So this morning, when it came time to actually put things in a backpack, I was made to sit on the bed and watch him pack. The following is an excerpt from his monologue. It can't be called a conversation, because I'm pretty sure I never said a word. He literally just gave me a play by play of everything he was putting into his backpack and why. <br />
"I'm going to take my Cal U of PA shirt, cause that doesn't make any sense and it packs up nicely. Then I need t-shirts. I think I'm going all green this weekend. Meaning 3 different shades of green shirts (he holds up his pile of 3 green shirts for me to see). If ever I write my book it won't be <u>50 Shades of Grey</u> it will just be <u>3 Shades of Green</u>. That's all I need, just 3 shades. Now what am I going to wear today."<br />
<br />
The best part is that for the entire time he was packing he had on jeans, no shirt, and a tactical scarf. She really was more excited about the trophy than anything else. We apparently have to get a special shelf for ALL her trophies of which, she is sure, there are many more to come. I apparently am not raising very humble children... whoops.</div>

We leave in the morning for a weekend in Maui with friends so we're clearing out the kitchen of anything that won't survive until Monday. He was helping me out in the kitchen and was fervently telling me, "We need the Colorados to be macaroni." I repeated it back to him and he nodded yes. I started doing the mom thing where you keep repeating in your head and putting the inflection in different places, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what he was saying. So I asked one more time, "We need the Colorados to be macaroni?" This time to clarify for me he said, "No, we need to make the Colorados into macaroni."<br />
<br />
You're still stumped aren't you? He very helpfully pointed to the avocados this last time and it clicked.<br />
<br />
"Oh, we need to make the avocados into guacamole. Yes, you're right."<br />

You build it into whatever you choose it to be, a boat, a dog, I think there are like 6 different choices. Caleb and the kids started to build it when unfortunately Caleb snapped the motor in half. Enter Macgyver Johnson. He took apart a bubble blowing lady bug that we had also broken somewhere along the way and removed the motor from it. He was pretty proud of himself because it involved triangular screw heads and he had to track down a 5 point screw bit to take it apart. It was a process to say the least. When he finally accomplished his goal, Blythe's only comment was, "Daddy's good at breaking things."<br />

So that's all the random pictures I found. I'm going to attempt to get some of the other stuff on here. In other news, I had totally forgotten about the blog list attached to this thing and am kind of excited to catch up on some old blogs if anyone is still posting :)Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-79527381103256903652013-01-08T21:45:00.001-06:002013-01-08T21:45:27.826-06:00Uno Strategery and the Worst Version of Who's on First Ever Caleb is playing Uno with the kids and here is what I just witnessed. Joe was down to two cards, both blue. The play to him was a green something or other so he had to draw a card and lo and behold he drew the dreaded draw 4! He triumphantly threw it on the stack and when asked what color he wanted it to be said, "red." Caleb pointed out that he didn't have any red cards in his hand, but he was adamant that he wanted it to be red. Blythe drew 4 cards making it Joe's turn again (he and Caleb are on a team) so Caleb told him, "Ok, you have to play a red." Joe very sadly replied, "but I don't have any reds." <br />
<br />
Another great conversation I have witnessed recently took place one of the first days we were back from Christmas. We were all sick during our trip to Texas. Both of the kids threw up for a couple days and didn't eat for another couple days. Wasn't the most fun I've ever had on vacation, but at least we were with family. Blythe likes to brag about her great fasting abilities so while driving around last weekend the kids had this little exchange...<br />
Blythe: Joe, did you know that when I was sick I didn't ate for 2 days.<br />
Joe: Eight?<br />
Blythe: No, 2.<br />

We had a blast getting to see all our friends. Thanks to everyone for coming out to see us! We are extremely blessed to have all of you in our life! <br />

Happy Birthday, sweet Joe Joe Baggins. Oh man, I don't know what words I have to describe you. Rascal comes to mind, but that sounds bad, and you, my dear boy, are an absolute delight. You are fearless, funny, and extremely cuddly. You take great care of your big sister, unless you are trying your hardest to drive her crazy. You are a man's man, except when you need to flash a smile to get out of being in trouble, then you definitely look for a girl to work your magic on. You are well on your way to unstoppable and we are so very proud to have you. We love you immensely, Joe Johnson!Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-19445641011233927282013-01-05T17:22:00.000-06:002013-01-05T17:22:00.954-06:00Blythe Turns 5I'm gonna attempt to update this thing about the month of December, but a lot happened so we'll see if I get it all done. First things first, our little Blythe turned 5, or "a whole hand," as she likes to say. Her birthday celebration seemed to never end because we had a party with her friends the first weekend in December, then she had her school celebration on the 11th, and lastly a little celebration with just the 4 of us on the actual day.<br />

At school she got a special hat, a card from her teachers, they all sang Happy Birthday to her, and then her best bud Jilian said a prayer for her. It was an extremely sweet little moment for her, part of the reason we love her school. Jilian went to Disneyland over the Thanksgiving break and I haven't seen her without her ears since.</div>

All in all, I think she had a pretty good birthday. Blythe is pretty spectacular in my extremely biased opinion. She is the sweetest big sister, an obedient and loving daughter, and already has a pretty wicked sense of humor which makes her a fun little buddy to have around the house. We are unbelievably proud to call her ours and are constantly amazed at the blessing she is to our family. We love you, BumbleBee!Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-79781136320703391472012-11-22T10:00:00.003-06:002012-11-22T10:00:53.327-06:00Happy Thanksgiving!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
After praying for the kids tonight when they were going to bed, Blythe and I entered into a fairly deep theological discussion. Here is a snapshot from our conversation.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: Did Jesus die on the cross?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: Yes, to forgive our sins.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: What are sins?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: It's when we do wrong.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: Jesus is God...Did God die? </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: No, God sent Jesus as a man to die so we could be forgiven</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: OK</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Joe: Was God in jail or Jess (Jesus) in jail?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: Jesus was in jail for a little while.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: Why was he in jail?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: The bad guys put Him in jail.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Joe: God could just kill the bad guys.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: No, God loves everyone. So he wanted Jesus to talk to them even when he was in jail.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: Does Jesus live in my heart?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: Yes</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Joe: Does he live in my heart too? and in your heart?</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: Yes</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Joe: Cause we're boys.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Caleb: And you'll get to see God some day in Heaven</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Blythe: Cause when I die I'll go to Heaven and see God. I'll just wake up, and I'll see God. </div>

Today Caleb and I were discussing which is worse... to be obnoxious on purpose or to inadvertently be obnoxious? Case in point. I just asked Caleb how to spell inadvertently, after I spelled it correctly mind you, and his response was, "With an 'In' in front." See... obnoxious on purpose.<br />
This afternoon I was straightening my hair, or chi-ing it up, which just so happens to block the hallway out of our room. I like to stand far back from the mirror :) So Caleb went to leave the room and ducked his head... so I raised the Chi. Somewhere 2 feet from the door he changed his mind and decided he was gonna step over it... I was still in the process of raising the Chi. So he decided to go back under... by that time I had switched to lowering the cord so he could go over it. You get the picture, we did that 3 more times at which point he just yelled, "Ok stop!"<br />
I lowered the cord he stepped over and we continued our lives. Except he said, "It would only be better if you were doing it on purpose." I completely disagreed. I think it was fantastic because I was absolutely trying to help him get out of the room. I was completely inadvertently being obnoxious. That is the thing comedians work years on to get the timing perfect and we just happen to do it because we're ridiculous people. I couldn't recreate that event in a million years. <br />
To you, the 3 people who read this blog I leave you the question. Which is better.. to inadvertently be obnoxious, or to do it on purpose?Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-89171411899395221532012-09-10T09:29:00.001-05:002012-09-10T09:29:21.959-05:00Caleb's 40th BirthdayI honestly don't know what just happened. I'm writing this mainly to make my sleepy brain walk back through the events that led up to the stupidest challenge I've ever been a part of. <br />
<br />
I'm reading and Caleb is playing the guitar. Which might have led me to say something about how I loved the violin last week at church. According to Caleb, the violin is one of the most difficult instruments to master, thus making it not for me. This is where it gets sketchy. Somewhere after "I love the violin," came something about naming all the string instruments. Caleb claimed there were 5, I went with 50. There was then a technicality about what was considered a string instrument. Caleb named off viola, violin, cello, base, and double base. The classical string instruments. I was thinking anything that involved a string, so guitar, ukelele, and harp would be included on my list.<br />
<br />
He still felt strongly that I wouldn't be able to come up with 50 and was gracious enough to give me 9 years to form my list. Thus, on Caleb's 40th birthday, I am to present a list of 50 instruments that have a string of some kind or be mocked incessantly. <br />
<br />
More sweet pillow talk from the man who brought us, "Indiscernible poisons and the deaths they can cause."<br />

Went to Gwen's gymnastic birthday party. They had the kids do this obstacle course over every apparatus in the building. It took him 10 minutes to explain it, and then he said, "when you get done you just start back over!" It looked exhausting, but Blythe would've kept jumping on the trampoline all day long.</div>

We spent last Saturday morning at Point Lobos Nature Reserve. There are tons of tide pools (tidal pools?) to look at and sea lions and otters to watch. The kids actually did pretty good hiking and climbing on the rocks. No one fell in which is a highly successful day for us! I'm a little nervous in this video because the waves are coming up right behind me.</div>

And that's about it! We're working our way through the list of things to see and do, however, we're running out of things that are within a 2 hour drive. Blythe has her first day of school next Tuesday. Hayley and Kyle will be here in less than 2 weeks. And the fabric for the dining room chairs was shipped today. Perhaps after I get that done I'll post pictures of the apartment. <br />

I write this only because they tried to turn this wrestling match on me and I held up one finger and said, "Mommy is only for cuddling." And they immediately turned back on their father with a vengeance. It's rough to be the Daddy sometimes. That's why we love him.Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-38451064522197536812012-07-26T00:38:00.000-05:002012-07-26T00:38:58.391-05:00Garden City On the second Sunday we were here, the 15th, we started our search for a church home. We did a super judgmental drive by of a church close to the apartment, but didn't even go in. Then we looked up the list The Village had given us of Acts 29 churches (I think that's the network) and found the closest one which met at 4pm. That's not a great time for us, but wanted to check it out anyway. The kids didn't want to go to their classes, but we walked by the kids part just so they could see it and then headed around to the front. We weren't even all the way to the top of the steps before someone had come out to greet us. It's a small church plant so I think they have a pretty easy time telling who's new. As soon as they heard we were from Texas they said we had to meet Matt and Faith which we did about 3 minutes later. They transplanted from Austin 3 years ago, although Matt is Cali born. We stayed after the service to have a picnic on the front lawn with everyone. By Tuesday I was at the beach with Faith and three other girls (I use the term girl very lightly, they're all grown women) from the church. By Wednesday we were at our new home group, at Matt and Faith's house, where most of the faces were familiar which is crazy cause we have been here 3 weeks! <br />
<div>
Tonight was our 2nd home group and we combined with another group for "Fun Wednesday." No Bible Study, just hangout time. I know no one believes when I say I'm not outgoing, but I don't love to do the whole big group get to know you thing. I must say though, it is an absolute answer to prayer that finding people who will eventually be our Cali family has come so easily. Faith and I get along smashingly. She understands the hole in my heart for a Sonic beverage and Blue Bell ice cream. We've been meeting at Rio Del Mar beach on Tuesdays (well twice we've done that). But I love her for not going in the ocean and for it being important that you don't have to carry all your junk down stairs and that there's a functional bathroom in her beach requirements. </div>
<div>
The other thing is the amount of kids that are the same age as our kids is splendid. Even better than that, there are all these newly weds or young singles that adore all the kids. We were all hanging out and there are just relative strangers absolutely loving on our kids like they were their own. It's ridiculous. The second time we were meeting everyone they were offering to babysit which is yet another huge prayer request answered! Our kids have really only stayed with family or those that we consider family so moving out here we were very curious how the babysitting side of things would go. You know mommy and daddy need their date nights. Here we are 10 days in and God has answered that request. I love when He answers requests you haven't technically asked for, they've just been a concern in the back of your mind. </div>
<div>
So we've found our people, hopefully they feel the same way about us, and we're gonna be ok. We might even be great. A girl could get used to 80 degree weather and a beach nearby. </div>Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-90496768350056223722012-07-14T20:12:00.000-05:002012-07-14T20:17:42.643-05:00HelloFor the past 10 days we haven't been doing much of anything. We've been finding a place for everything in the apartment. Gone to the beach a couple days. The last time there was a giant dead seal washed up on the beach. As you might imagine it wasn't a great smell so I think this week we'll be trying out a new beach. I'm trying to find a decent salsa at the grocery store. Also, I have learned that Blue Bell isn't sold in California, meaning, there are dark days ahead, my friends. Caleb is working really hard now that he's in the office all day. I think he had forgotten what it was like to have to go to work every day. We're all adjusting. I actually really like the apartment. As soon as I get things hung on the wall I'll take some pictures. The last room is the guest room which ended up being where we put everything that didn't immediately have a place to go. So hopefully this week I'll get it ready for an actual guest bed because we've got our first visitor coming August 1st! We're extremely excited to have Mama J come see us. We still need to get dining room chairs and another bed and we'll pretty much be ready for company!<br />
I have officially commandeered the new car we bought to replace Caleb's truck. They delivered it the first Monday that we were here and that night we put the baby seats in it to take a family test drive. That ended up being a dire mistake on Caleb's part as the baby seats have never been taken back out of it. It's cute and smallish and white, much like me, and I'm pretty sure he's not getting it back.Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-11937493622876432762012-07-04T14:42:00.002-05:002012-07-04T14:42:52.774-05:00Not Much News It's our last day in the hotel, and I think I speak for all of us when I say we are extremely excited to move into our new apartment and get settled. The kids and I have gotten into a little bit of routine over the past couple days. We've been checking out parks in the morning, grabbing some lunch, taking naps, and then swimming until Caleb gets back from work. <br />
We did go check out a school for Blythe which wasn't anything spectacular, but it's the only place I can find that has a 2 day a week option. The people were friendly and sweet, just no one seemed very excited to be there. I don't think we'll really know how it is until she's actually going there, so we're gonna go with it and we can always change our minds later. <br />
Our apartment looks out over the complex playground and the kids mostly just want to play there. Yesterday we met a mom and daughter who don't live in the apartments, but her son is being tutored by a teacher who lives there. The little girl was about Blythe's age, and the woman and I talked for almost an hour pretty easily so that's exciting. They said they are there twice a week for the rest of the summer and they would come knock on our door the next time they were out there. <br />
That's about all we've been doing. Hopefully, once we actually move in I'll have more to report.Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-42605439759762655392012-07-01T10:21:00.000-05:002012-07-01T10:21:07.948-05:00We're Heeeeere!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We arrived in Santa Clara around 6 last night after what was my favorite day of the trip! Yesterday we woke up in Mammoth Lake, had some breakfast and took the gondola to the top of the mountain. I think this face explains how Blythe felt about the gondola ride...</div>

We rode back down and stopped in town to pick up some lunch for the road when along came this guy...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

He very carefully looked both ways before crossing the road and heading up some stairs towards an Italian restaurant. I assume he was going for pizza. Everyone acted like this was perfectly normal. They just stopped where they were and let him go by. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we hit the road which just so happened to run straight through Yosemite National Park. I will admit I've never given it much thought, but it is truly incredible. This was just one of at least 50 lakes we drove by that all looked like this.</div>

We are all very glad to be done with the driving portion of our adventure. Today we are heading over to the apartment to see our new home for the first time. We've got some errands to run to get a little more settled before Caleb goes to work in the morning. Now on to the actual living in California part!!Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-7791430405213557522012-06-29T22:48:00.000-05:002012-06-29T22:48:03.552-05:00Californ-I-A I don't have much to report, nor do I have any pictures. We've spent the last 2 days driving across the desert. It was hot and barren... it felt just like home :) Sometime yesterday we crossed the border into California, but the sign wasn't really accessible or very fun. No "Welcome to California" or any such greeting. Just a "You are now entering California" and then a border station where they ask you if you have any fruits, vegetables, plants or animals like you're coming from a foreign country and they don't want your germs coming into their desert wasteland. So my first impression of California wasn't great.<br />
However, tonight we are in Mammoth Lakes. I wore jeans and a sweater to dinner and loved every minute of it. It's a beautiful little ski mountain town and hopefully tomorrow we will take a gondola ride up to the top and get a better view of where we are. After dinner tonight we took a dip in the hot tub and met a sweet couple from New Zealand who are on a 10 week holiday from what turns out to be a lenticular bookmark empire. We spent the evening talking business and parenting. I think we might have all been starved for a little outside interaction cause the longer we talked the closer they got to us. By the time we said goodnight I could've easily given her a kiss. <br />
Tomorrow we make the final 6 hour drive through Yosemite to our new home. I thought I would have more to add after that statement, but I don't really. It's been a good week of vacation and I still don't think it's hit me yet that we are actually moving. I'll let you know when it does.Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-54392692499312513202012-06-28T10:13:00.000-05:002012-06-28T10:13:56.509-05:00A Large Hole in the Ground and the Grand Canyon<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Good morning,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Turns out we were only about 15 miles from the Arizona border yesterday. </div>

At our first stop we checked out the Painted Desert Visitor Center, but didn't actually go to the Painted Desert or the Petrified Forest. Caleb said we would save that for the trip back, and Hayley said the Petrified Forest was pretty boring anyway.<br />
So then we headed to Meteor Crater which is a seriously large hole in the ground where a meteor hit the Earth. Pretty amazing to see, but caused mass confusion for the kids. Where is the rock? Why was it on fire? I want to see the rock, let's find it. <br />

After the crater we headed to the Grand Canyon. As we got close we saw this elk out the window. I got the camera out of the glove box, turned it on, lens cap off, window down, and picture taken in, I kid you not, less than 10 seconds. I have mad fast elk photography skills.<br />

The Grand Canyon with Joe is pretty stressful. There aren't rails for the most part, and the ones they do have he can walk under. So we spent a lot of time saying, "not so close Joe, stop jumping, please don't swing on the rails, etc..." Caleb ended up just holding on to the back of his shirt the whole time. If ever there was a reason to have one of those kid leashes it would be Joe at the Grand Canyon.<br />

We spent about 3 hours walking and riding the buses (I think the kids were more excited about the bus rides) and then headed back to Flagstaff to see Mama J and Papa Tim who are spending the week in Sedona. By the end of today we should officially be in California!!Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-32580928453974736402012-06-26T22:09:00.000-05:002012-06-26T22:09:01.987-05:00The Roadtrip<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello from Gallup, New Mexico! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bright and early Monday morning, 4am to be exact, Caleb awoke with a start worried about the 18 wheeler parking on Austin St and went out to block off the street. Sure enough, sometime between 1 and 4 someone had parked directly in front of our house. We had talked to the driver on Sunday about how busy the street gets, so he said he planned on being there by 6:30 to beat the rush. Starting at 6 Caleb began guarding the street in front of the neighbors house, our last vestige of hope that the truck could park somewhere. If any of you have seen Austin St you know an 18 wheeler was gonna have trouble no matter how many parking spots we blocked off. Anyhoo, around 8:30 they showed up, there was no way they were fitting anywhere, so Ray just parked in the middle of the street. You could still squeeze around him on one side if you had a tiny car, but it wasn't great. Ray was probably 70ish, long white beard, and a beer belly. Tim and Tony were the heavy lifters. All 3 guys were super nice, sweet to the kids, and had our whole house packed and ready to go in 3 hours. I joked to Tim that it had taken me 3 years to get everything just where I wanted it, and 3 hours for them to completely take it apart. Amazingly, our entire house fit into the very front of the truck where there's that little raised loft portion. Ray was heading to Houston to pack up a house and then driving to California, making stops in Bakersfield and LA, putting him to Santa Clara no earlier than the 4th. I was told they wouldn't deliver on the holiday, so let's call that the 5th. Putting us in California 6 days before our belongings. Sweet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We were loaded up and pulling out of the driveway about 30 minutes after the truck. Joe looked like this about 10 minutes down the road...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqrvnGZ980BJc89y6Oj8HJrS8iOE0gl3SgCUhlyVP26xJjM4GqWgOSxwqg0z2UQtMLIuc3kT7Rri3khQC2CkiPDv1vJjFV_vz8Qo2sAsZhJyLkAwI7yUiMUNEQiWCfT5RgCPk1bXawb7EG/s1600/IMG_0602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqrvnGZ980BJc89y6Oj8HJrS8iOE0gl3SgCUhlyVP26xJjM4GqWgOSxwqg0z2UQtMLIuc3kT7Rri3khQC2CkiPDv1vJjFV_vz8Qo2sAsZhJyLkAwI7yUiMUNEQiWCfT5RgCPk1bXawb7EG/s320/IMG_0602.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
You know when kids fall asleep in the car and their neck falls over and they look super uncomfortable? Well, we bought these pillows to help combat that, but Joe's pushes his head too far forward if you put it behind his neck, so after he falls asleep we've been putting it on this way so that it resembles a demented monkey neck brace. Also, it gives him amazing pouty lips.<br />
We headed South (I know that's the wrong direction, let me get there) to Carrollton to sign papers on selling Caleb's truck and buying a Jetta that they are shipping to California for us which somehow saves on sales tax, or something. I start hearing buzzing sounds when Caleb brings up a percentage of any kind, so the basic thing I heard was that we saved money that way. <br />
We headed back up 35 to our starting point and then headed west to Amarillo. Yesterday's drive was more about getting there than anything else and we made it to our destination around 8, took baths, and fell asleep. <br />
Today we woke up, had some breakfast, made a Target stop so I could buy <u>The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo</u>, and hit the road! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We made it to Santa Rosa, New Mexico around noon grabbed some lunch at a Route 66 Diner (that was the name of it, but Caleb said he had eaten at another one in Vegas hence the use of the word "a" instead of "the") and then headed over to the Blue Hole.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's a spring fed sink hole just sitting in the middle of nowhere, so we stopped to play for a bit. I will tell you that is not Caleb screaming in this video. Someone highjacked the video which I think is hilarious.</div>

Our last random stop of the day was at the Continental Divide. Caleb complained that I hadn't been in a picture all day, but this is the exact reason I don't let him take pictures. He gets you when you are talking to him and your hair is in your face so you look ridiculous. Neither one of us knew what the Continental Divide actually was so when we read the sign we both made that, "Huh." sound. You can't read that sign very well, but it says, "Rainfall divides at this point. To the west it drains into the Pacific Ocean, to the east, into the Atlantic." Huh.<br />

We finished out the drive to Gallup, grabbed some dinner, hit the pool and now we're watching American Ninja Warrior. Tomorrow we are officially leaving little Austin St. On Saturday, John, the mailman, knocked on our door to give us the boxes to send our cable boxes back in. I guess he recognized what they were, so he asked if we were getting rid of Verizon and I told him about our move to California. He seemed genuinely sad to see us go and commented on how he hadn't seen our change of address form come through. I realized that is not the standard mailman interaction. I have never been able to pick my mailman out of a lineup let alone have almost daily conversations with them. So it got me thinking about all the little quirks about Austin St that make it so dear to my heart. <br />
John is high on that list. We spend a lot of time in our front yard, so we see him at least once a week I would guess. I should specify that we don't have mail boxes on the street so John walks to everyone's house. We have a mail slot on our door that he just tosses the mail through on to the floor. This seems to bother him cause he's always apologizing for it. One Saturday during football season Caleb was sitting on the front porch with the door open watching a football game while the kids rode their bikes. John came by and hung out for about half an hour and watched the game with him. When Joe was just starting to walk John walked around the corner and said hi to Joe then stopped and said, "Man, that boy looks just like his daddy." Which he does, anyone who has met my boys once can see that, but whose mailman knows that? <br />
Joann is also very high on this list. Joann works at TWU and drives a little red scooter to work. She's a beautiful woman with flowing white hair and a huge smile. That's right she's our Austin St grandma on a scooter. She used to park her scooter on the street in front of our house and one day I witnessed her scooter being backed into. The girl appeared to leave a note, but it turns out it just had her phone number on it and she never answered the phone. That's the day I officially met Joann. Her scooter was damaged so that she couldn't drive it home, so I gave her a ride and we were friends from then on. We also told her to just park in our driveway cause it was the 2nd time her scooter had been knocked over on the street. If we were outside when she got done with work she would sit on the porch with me and watch the kids. She quickly adopted us as her own and hugged me three different times when she came by to tell us goodbye.<br />
The next person on my list is Triathlon Girl. The rest of these people we have named ourselves cause we've never officially met them, but see them often enough to feel like we know them. Triathlon Girl is this super fit little bit of a girl who we always see running or biking. We just assume she also swims and thus must be a triathlete. She's legit too, I've only ever seen her sprinting. Granted she lives 3 houses down from us, so we see her at the beginning and end of her workout, but I like to believe she sprints the whole time. A couple months ago I'm pretty sure I majorly creeped her out. We were walking back from the Rozell's and she was in her front yard with her dog in a skirt and t-shirt. I've only ever seen her in workout clothes so as we got close and said hello I added, "you look cute today!" She gave me a weird look, and I realized she's usually sprinting by me as I sit in the shade on my porch. She probably has never seen my face that well and thinks I am a stalker of some sort. I awkwardly added, "I'm used to seeing you in workout clothes running by the house." She gave me a polite smile, but I'm not sure she put together who I was. <br />
Next up, Figaro. Figaro lives diagonally from us. He likes to stand on his porch and play the accordion and he sings in this beautiful baritone voice. I don't know if it's the distance and we can't understand him or what, but it sounds like he's singing Italian operas. We've sat out there and listened to him sing many a night. He also serves as the cheering squad for our front yard baseball games. He's a discerning fan though, only cheering for really good hits that make it all the way across the street.<br />
And last but not least there's Safari Santa. When the weather is nice, between 3 and 4 in the afternoon Safari Santa rides his bike down the street. He wears one of those tan hard safari hats, and his long white hair and beard blow out behind him in the wind. He has rosy red cheeks and always makes sure to wave really big at the kids. I'm not completely convinced that Santa doesn't summer in Denton.<br />
I'm tired, so I'm not gonna check my grammar or spelling. I'm just waiting for the washer to finish so I can put the last load of laundry I will do in this house into the dryer and then I'm off to bed. Goodnight, sweet Austin St.Courthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841519364985118266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146781993035879582.post-73854230425650805182012-06-23T14:20:00.000-05:002012-06-23T14:20:47.150-05:00Bouncing is Fun<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
